Biodiesel Timeline

1990 - Soybean Checkoff in Missouri funds the first biodiesel research.     

1991 - Farmer-leaders drive biodiesel demonstration vehicle to U.S. Capitol.

1992 - Soybean checkoff helps organize the National Biodiesel Board.

1993 - Biodiesel pilot project with Hennepin County snow plows is successful.

1994 - Soybean checkoff sponsors Zodiac global voyage fueled by B100.

1995 - Biodiesel quality study is funded by soybean checkoff.

1996 - Biodiesel becomes the first alternative fuel to pass EPA requirements. 

1997 - School bus fleets begin to use B20 to reduc emissions.              

1998 - ASA passes legislation allowing biodiesel in clear air programs.

1999 - Pres. Clinton visits MN farmers, calls for use of biobased fuels.

2000 - Rep. Westrom introduces first biodiesel legislation in MN House.

2001 - Mn biodiesel legislation is introduced again.

2002- MN becomes the first state to implement a B2 requirement.

2003- MN reaches 200 biodiesel retailer milestone. 

2004 - Groundbreaking of MnSP biodiesel production facility near Brewster, MN takes place.

2004 - FUMPA Biofuels in Redwood Falls begins biodiesel production.

2005 - SoyMor in Albert Lea, MN brings Minnesota to required production capacity.

2005 - Gov. Pawlenty announces the implementation of the B2 requirement on Sept. 29, 2005. 

   

 2007- MN Govenor calls on state to increase use of biodiesel.

2008- Gov. Pawlenty signs legislation to ramp up biodiesel mandate on May 12, 2008.

2009- MN mandate increases to B5 May 1, 2009
